SEMrush SEO Writing Assistant

Description

The SEMrush SEO Writing Assistant provides instant recommendations for content optimization based on the qualities of Google’s top 10-ranking pages for your given keywords in a given location. Content professionals, bloggers and marketing experts can check if their texts or the texts of external writers meet various content-quality requirements in just a few clicks.

Features

  • Overall score – checks the article’s general quality calculated according to metrics such as readability, text length, and target keywords.
  • Readability score – evaluates your text’s difficulty based on the recommended Flesch-Kincaid reading-ease score. You will get recommendations for sentences and words that need improvement.
  • Target keywords – shows recommendations regarding the given keywords, their volume and their difficulty.
  • Recommended keywords – shows semantically related keywords, that should also be added to your text.
  • Plagiarism – validate that your writer has submitted original content.
  • Linking – check your links for possible errors and problems.

How it works?

  1. Connect or register a SEMrush account for free.
  2. Set your target keywords to get recommendations for your content.
  3. Select a target location and device (desktop or mobile).
  4. Create an SEO content template.

Is it free?

In order to run the SEO Writing Assistant, you will need a SEMrush account to create an SEO content template. With a free account, you can create one template. Paid accounts have different keyword budgets depending on the subscription plan.

Also, if someone (e.g., your Content Manager) has already created SEO content template and connected it to a post, anyone who has access to the post will be able to see the SEO Writing Assistant interface.

Works Great

If you’re familiar with SEMrush’s SEO Content Template, then this should be very familiar. Gotta have an account though, but if you’re doing any sort of serious SEO, and SEMrush account is a must!

Works well, but must connect to your SEMrush account

This took me about 2 minutes to set up, but it does need to connect to your SEMrush account. I have a free account with them, and it worked quickly and easily for me. The overall score, readability, and words, I can get from other places (like Yoast), but I do specifically like the “Recommended Keywords” section. It’s not going to help you if you don’t know how to set keywords, but if you do, I think this tool can be helpful.

It doesn’t work

So far I installed the plugin. It connects to my SEMRush account content template and shows it at the bottom of the Editor ‘Boxes’ where you find Yoast SEO but underneath. It is not in the sidebar as on the demo site on SEMRush website which also doesn’t work for me.

Content is added – a few thousand words and I see absolutely no change. I do not think the plugin is working. Going to try google Docs version but feeling a little put out at wasting my time. SEMRush want $80 for a basic account with quite limited credits for keywords – this is not incentivising me to buy.

A bad experience

I’m really not happy with the plugin. I installed it even though I knew I could only create one template. And the experience couldn’t have been that bad. Maybe because I didn’t choose a good post properly, but the real thing is that I couldn’t use it again. I have not found a way to remove the template and recreate a new one and I think that going to the process of removing the plugin and reinstallation is not the right way.
My competition niche is Latin American and I was struck by the lack of internationalization of the plugin. Nevertheless I saw good answers from the plugin for additional terms to compete (Spanish). It is the first contact I have with the plugin I hope you can improve these aspects in future versions.
